Annual Events

Each year the Commission recognizes women who work to bring about social and economic change, promote women's equality, serve as outstanding role models for women, work on behalf of women's issues and demonstrate outstanding performance within their professions to further advocate women's rights.

The 30th Annual "Women of the Year" Awards, Scholarship and 40-Year Anniversary Luncheon was held on Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Grand Hall of the Music Center located at 135 North Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, 90012, honoring outstanding women role models.  For additional information click here.

Girls At-Risk Educational Scholarship Program

The Girls at-Risk Educational Scholarship Program was created in 1999. The Commission has taken proceeds from this and other annual events in order to provide over 300 at-risk girls supplemental educational scholarships.

These girls and their special and varied circumstances are given the option to use their funds not solely for tuition; but for such fundamental things as books, medical insurance, school supplies, child care and clothing.

The Educational Scholarship Application for 2015-16 School year is now available.  We encourage interested candidates to review the Scholarship Award Criteria and submit a completed application to the Commission.

Annual Retreat

The Commission Retreat is held to bring ideas and thoughts of Commissioners forward in an effort to reach Commission goals for the year. The Los Angeles County Commission for Women is committed to continuing work toward the following goals:

  • Goal 1: Empower, influence and help women to forge ahead in acquiring better access to healthcare.
  • Goal 2: Empower, influence and forge ahead by enhancing our economic position.
  • Goal 3: Empower, influence and support women to forge ahead to reach gender equity in the workplace

At the retreat, the Commission utilizes “SMART” goal strategies as well as action plan templates. Committees are formed and begin the development of action plans using these methods.

The next Commission for Women Retreat is scheduled for August 10, 2015 immediately following the Regular meeting.
